Partyception (2022)

Partyception was a collaborative project created by The Last Braincell, with myself as a co-artist (UI/UX, Animation, Character Design) and sound designer. Our team had a timeline of approximately three (3) months to work on this game.

From the game's website: "Partyception is a fast-paced lobby-style Pop Quiz party game with dozens of trivia questions across a variety of entertainment categories. Test your knowledge against a group of friends, or organize a massive lobby on a stream and see who makes it to the end!"

UI/UX

I was responsible for working on the User Interface elements with co-artist Ashli Black.

For this process, I first started by making several wireframes that laid out how certain screens would look/how they would connect with each other.

After I made the wireframes, Ashli and I then started to work on the UI assets that would be needed, based on the wireframes.

I created the UI assets in Procreate and then uploaded them into Unity.

Our first task as artists was to determine the visual aesthetic of the game. We settled on a soft, "Japanese Vaporwave" style, which can be seen in the callout sheet below.

With our style in mind, we then went on to create wireframes to lay out (a) how screens would be connected and (b) where our art assets should be placed.

Animation

One of my final tasks as one of the game's artists was to create an animation for the opening sequence that plays at the beginning of the game.

The game was designed to look like a computer desktop with web browsers, so I wanted to incorporate this theme into the animation. Thus, I animated a hand turning on a computer, which then plays a loading animation on the screen.

I animated this in Procreate, assembled it in After Effects, and imported into Unity.

Character Design

Due to the nature of the game, most of the art assets that we needed to make were for the User Interface. However, at one point during development, we discussed the possibility of adding avatars.

I created these a total of six (6) avatars that could be used in the game, each with a unique character. We wanted to offer a chance for players to express themselves and customize their experience.

However, due to time constraints, we had to cut avatars from the game to focus on other, more important aspects of the game.

In addition to art, I was responsible for the sound design of the game. This includes music and sound effects. I tried to match the sound design to the aesthetic of the game, so I went for a cutesy, 80's vaporwave-inspired style.

I composed two tracks in Ableton for the game, which are my own creation. I collected sound effects from freesound.org; I do not own the sounds. I have attached a file crediting the creators of the sound effects.
